Purple Tomatoes

The Somewhat Artistic Ramblings of a (poofy) Southern Gal

  • Purple tomatoes?

Well the reason I chose purple tomatoes is because growing up we always had a garden (don't ask me if I liked working in the garden; that's a story for another day). My mom always grew waaaaayyyy too many tomato plants and sometimes we'd eat only tomatoes for dinner. Well, my favorite variety out of all the different kinds we grew? You guessed it: Purple Tomatoes.

Das Clay

When first deciding to try my hand at clay embellishments (primarily clay faces thus far) I was too big of a wimp to immediately start with polymer clay. I thought it would be too much trouble, too difficult, etc. So I decided to try out air-dry clay instead. When I went to my local A. C. Moore to purchase some, I realized that most of the air-dry clays they carried were too light and soft. They didn’t have the “heft” I typically associate with clay items. Just as I was about to give up, I saw a package of the Das brand of air-dry clay, which looks like this:

I have the terra cotta color and the white, but so far have only used the terra cotta. I store it in the fridge all sealed up in about three layers because I’m afraid it will get hard otherwise. The only thing I don’t like about the terra cotta is that once dry, it’s a much more subdued color than you usually associate with terra cotta embellishments. I suspect this is because I have not glazed it or otherwise polished it. They just look really “earthy”, which is cool with me.
